Identifier darker than footer

identifier-darker-than-footer

Identifier darker than the footer (grade 80+ / black). Primary or base family, darker than the preceding section, anchored at the bottom so it is not another footer stripe.

Description

USWDS identifiers use primary or base family colour darker than the preceding footer section (grade 80+ or black) and sit at the bottom so they are not another footer stripe. Matching the footer band or placing the identifier mid-page as an extra stripe fails the hierarchy. Keep the identifier darker and bottom-anchored so agency identity reads as the final band.

When to use

Styling the USWDS identifier beneath a site footer on government pages.

Not when

Matching the footer stripe or placing the identifier mid-page as another band.

Agent hint

Make the identifier darker than the footer (grade 80+/black) and anchor it at the bottom.

Pass

Identifier is darker than the preceding footer section (primary/base grade 80+ or black) and sits at the bottom.

Fail

Identifier matches the footer stripe or sits mid-page as another footer band.
