Checkbox vs switch

checkbox-vs-switch

Checkbox often with a submit for state; a single checkbox can be two-state. Switch takes effect immediately and does not need a button. Dual-cite Lightning toggle-immediate; Ant names Switch vs checkbox pairing.

Description

On Ant-style data entry, a Switch takes effect immediately and needs no submit button. A checkbox that is part of a submitted form waits for submit; a single checkbox may still be two-state. A Switch that does nothing until submit, or a form checkbox that applies instantly like a Switch, mixes the patterns. Pick based on whether change is immediate or form-bound.

When to use

Choosing between Switch and checkbox for a boolean.

Not when

Non-boolean inputs or controls outside Switch/checkbox pairing.

Agent hint

Use Switch for immediate toggles; keep form checkboxes until submit.

Pass

Switch applies immediately with no submit. Checkbox state waits for submit when it is part of a submitted form; a single checkbox may be two-state.

Fail

Switch that does nothing until a separate submit; or a form checkbox that applies immediately as if it were Switch.
