Never two icons in one button

never-two-icons-in-one-button

Never two icons in one button.

Description

Ant forbids two icons inside one button. A control may have no icon or a single icon that supports its label; stacking two icons in the same button muddies what the action is. Keep icon content to zero or one per button when composing actions and CTAs. Apply when deciding button content — not when two neighboring buttons each carry one icon of their own. Fail any single button that shows two icons together.

When to use

Adding an icon to a button or action control.

Not when

Separate adjacent icon buttons — each control may have its own icon.

Agent hint

Put at most one icon in a button; never two icons together.

Pass

A button has zero or one icon.

Fail

Two icons in one button.
