Search hide label only if name states context

search-hide-label-only-if-name-states-context

Search: visually hide the label only if the accessible name states the search context (“Hae sivustolta” / “Hae toimipisteitä”). Placeholder is visual extra. Clear control appears once there is a query. Skip search on tiny single-page tools. Placeholder/label lock: this is not a general placeholder-as-label pass.

Description

Suomi.fi allows visually hiding a search label only when the accessible name states the search context (for example “Hae sivustolta” / “Hae toimipisteitä”). Placeholder remains visual extra; a clear control appears once there is a query; tiny single-page tools may omit search. This is not a general placeholder-as-label pass. A hidden label with a generic name, or ordinary fields citing this rule, fails.

When to use

Search inputs where a visible label may be hidden if the name carries context.

Not when

Ordinary non-search fields, or generic accessible names that omit search context.

Agent hint

Hide the search label only if the accessible name states context; keep placeholder as extra.

Pass

If the search label is visually hidden, the accessible name states context; placeholder is extra; clear appears once there is a query; tiny single-page tools may omit search.

Fail

Visually hidden search label with a generic name that does not state context; or ordinary non-search fields hide the label citing this.
