Picker mobile tray when overwhelming

picker-mobile-tray-when-overwhelming

Mobile menu container — popover or tray. Use a tray when the option count would overwhelm a popover.

Description

On mobile, Spectrum picker menus live in a popover or a tray. Prefer a tray when the option count would overwhelm a popover, rather than forcing a large set into a cramped overlay. Small sets can stay in a popover; large catalogs need the tray pattern so choices remain scannable. Apply on mobile picker containers; do not force tray on desktop or on tiny lists that already fit.

When to use

Mobile menus with many picker options that would crowd a popover.

Not when

Desktop pickers, or small option sets that fit a compact popover.

Agent hint

On mobile, switch from popover to tray when the option count would overwhelm.

Pass

Mobile picker uses popover, or tray when the option count would overwhelm a popover.

Fail

A large option set is forced into a popover that the count would overwhelm, with no tray.
