Picker concise items full value

picker-concise-items-full-value

Concise menu items; width shows the chosen value in full — wrapping items discouraged; if wrapping is frequent, revise copy or change pattern. Field button should be wide enough that selected items are not ellipsized.

Description

A Spectrum picker should keep menu copy short and size the field button wide enough that the selected value is not ellipsized. Frequent wrapping is treated as a copy or pattern problem, not something to leave as-is. Truncating the chosen value in the closed field hides what was picked; wrapping every item usually means the labels need revision or a different control. Apply on form pickers; do not stretch this to free-text fields.

When to use

Building pickers and select-like fields where the chosen value must stay readable.

Not when

Free-text inputs, multi-line text areas, or icon-only toolbar menus.

Agent hint

Keep menu items concise and widen the field so the selection is not ellipsized.

Pass

Menu items are concise; the field button is wide enough that the selected value is not ellipsized; frequent wrapping is treated as a copy/pattern problem.

Fail

Selected value ellipsized in the field button, or frequently wrapping items left as-is.
