Label left default vs top

label-left-default-vs-top

Ant: label left of input by default; top when the text is too long or in English context; consistent within the system. Dual-cite Fluent/Spectrum top-default. Do not pick a winner.

Description

Ant places labels left of inputs by default and moves them above when the label text is too long or the product is English-context; whatever you choose, stay consistent in-product. Fluent and Spectrum default top instead — treat that as a dual-cite, not a winner to enforce. Fail mixed left/top in one form with no reason, or a house rule that bans the other cite’s default.

When to use

Placing field labels in Ant forms across a product.

Not when

Forcing one cite to ban Fluent/Spectrum top-default labels.

Agent hint

Keep label side consistent; Ant left-default, top when long or English.

Pass

Labels are consistently left or consistently top in-product (Ant left-default; Fluent/Spectrum top-default). Ant also allows top when label text is too long or in English context.

Fail

Mixed left/top in one form with no reason; or a house default that bans the other cite.
