Button types named

button-types-named

Button types named: default; Start; secondary; warning (destructive).

Description

Named button types keep action weight readable: default for ordinary actions, Start for the service start, secondary for lower emphasis, and warning for destructive work. The type must match the role so people can trust the styling. Fail if a destructive action uses default styling, or if Start, secondary, or warning is used for the wrong job. Apply when designing action and CTA buttons that need clear priority.

When to use

Choosing button styling for primary, start, secondary, or destructive actions.

Not when

Not for link styling, or icon-only toolbar controls without a button role.

Agent hint

Match button type to role; use warning only for destructive actions.

Pass

The button’s type matches its role (default / Start / secondary / warning for destructive).

Fail

Destructive uses default styling, or Start/secondary/warning are used for the wrong role.
