Picker readonly only if selection

picker-readonly-only-if-selection

Read-only only if a selection exists — a picker with no selection has no read-only option.

Description

Spectrum allows read-only on a picker only when a selection already exists. An empty picker has no read-only option, because there is no value to preserve. Use read-only when the chosen value must stay visible and non-editable; leave unset pickers interactive or omit the control rather than marking them read-only. Do not confuse this with disabled unavailable fields that are out of play entirely.

When to use

Showing a locked picker value that must remain visible after choice.

Not when

Empty unset pickers, or disabled unavailable fields with no value to keep.

Agent hint

Make a picker read-only only after it has a selection; never empty read-only.

Pass

Read-only picker has a selection. Empty picker is not read-only.

Fail

Read-only picker with no selection.
