Autocompletion

forms.inputs.autocompletion

As the user types a value with a known set of completions, suggest and complete matches.

Description

When the user types a value that has a known set of completions, the UI should suggest matches from the typed prefix and allow completing the value. Pass when suggestions appear and can finish the entry; fail when the known set must be typed entirely from memory with no suggestions. Use for closed or catalogued values, not open prose.

When to use

Fields with a known completion set and typed prefixes.

Not when

Open free-text with no known completion vocabulary.

Agent hint

Offer prefix suggestions from the known set and let them complete the value.

Pass

Known completion set: suggestions appear from typed prefix and can complete the value.

Fail

Known set is typed from memory with no suggestions.
