Equivalent content both official languages

equivalent-content-both-official-languages

Equivalent content in both official languages — professionally translated; Canadian EN/FR conventions; bilingual images, multimedia and transcripts (or equivalent information in both languages). Not a “summary in the other language.” Dual-cite USWDS language selector (full equivalent translations) vs Canada Official-Language keep-place toggle — two jobs; this row is content equivalence, not the toggle control.

Description

Canada.ca requires equivalent content in both official languages: professionally translated with Canadian EN/FR conventions, including bilingual images, multimedia, and transcripts (or equivalent information). A summary in the other language is not enough. Dual-cite USWDS full-equivalent translations versus Canada’s keep-place toggle — this row is content equivalence, not the toggle control. Fail one-language-only media with no equivalent, or other-language summary standing in for a full translation.

When to use

Publishing Canada.ca pages or media that exist in both official languages.

Not when

Choosing the language-toggle control pattern — that is a separate job.

Agent hint

Ship equivalent EN/FR translations, including media or transcripts — not summaries.

Pass

EN and FR are equivalent professional translations, including media/transcripts or equivalent information.

Fail

Other language is only a summary, or media exists in one official language only with no equivalent.
