Named button type map

named-button-type-map

Named type map — Default = non-primary, safe if unsure. Primary = complete/recommend. Text = low emphasis (e.g. table actions). Icon-only must have a Tooltip. Text+icon = supplementary meaning. Dashed = add content in an area. Link = external links. Ghost = dark or colored background. (Primary ≤1 per button group is named here, not a second row — dual-cite Actions/Atlassian/Carbon by scope.)

Description

Ant’s named types carry meaning: Default for safe non-primary, Primary to complete or recommend, Text for low emphasis (for example table actions), Dashed to add content in an area, Link for external links, Ghost on dark or colored backgrounds. Icon-only needs a Tooltip; text-plus-icon is supplementary. Keep at most one Primary in a button group. Fail off-map uses (Link for in-app actions, Dashed as primary complete), icon-only without tooltip, or two Primaries in one group.

When to use

Choosing button types for actions in a group or table.

Not when

Landing one-CTA screens — that is one-cta-per-screen, not type map.

Agent hint

Match Ant type map; tooltip icon-only; at most one Primary per group.

Pass

Button type matches that map; icon-only has a tooltip; at most one primary in a button group.

Fail

Type used off-map (e.g. link for an in-app action, dashed for a primary complete); icon-only with no tooltip; two primaries in one group.
