Mixed values EN dash

mixed-values-en-dash

When the field represents multiple non-identical values, show an en dash (–), not a blank or a single value.

Description

When a field represents several non-identical values at once, the control must signal that mix clearly. Spectrum requires an en dash (–) instead of leaving the field blank or displaying one of the underlying values as if it were shared. Blank looks unset; a single value looks like consensus. Use this on bulk-edit and multi-item forms where the selection set differs; do not invent a house glyph or collapse the mix into one chosen option.

When to use

Multi-select or bulk-edit fields holding different values across items.

Not when

Single-value fields, identical values across items, or empty never-set fields.

Agent hint

Show an en dash for mixed values; never blank the field or pick one value.

Pass

Mixed non-identical values display an en dash (–).

Fail

Mixed values shown as blank or as one of the values.
