Task list statuses

task-list-statuses

Task list statuses (Not started / Cannot start yet / In progress / Completed) plus complete-multiple-tasks grouping.

Description

Task lists should show statuses as they apply—Not started, Cannot start yet, In progress, Completed—and group related tasks so people can complete multiple tasks coherently. Those statuses communicate readiness and progress without inventing new labels. An ungrouped dump of tasks or missing Cannot-start-yet / In-progress leaves people unsure what to do next. Fail for missing statuses, invented labels that drop those states, or ungrouped tasks. Use this on multi-task journeys with progress.

When to use

Building a multi-task journey list with progress statuses.

Not when

Not for single-page forms with no task breakdown.

Agent hint

Use the four task statuses and group related tasks for completing multiple tasks.

Pass

Tasks show those statuses (as they apply) and related tasks are grouped for completing multiple tasks.

Fail

No statuses, invented status labels that drop Cannot-start-yet / In-progress, or an ungrouped dump of tasks.
