Toast auto-dismiss at least 5s

toast-auto-dismiss-min-5s

Auto-dismiss ≥ 5 seconds so the message can be read. If an actionable toast auto-dismisses, the action must remain available elsewhere. Pause the timer on focus or hover (including keyboard focus on toast buttons).

Description

Spectrum auto-dismiss toasts stay up at least five seconds so the message can be read, pause the timer on focus or hover (including keyboard focus on toast buttons), and keep any actionable path available elsewhere if the toast dismisses. Shorter timers, timers that ignore focus, or actions that vanish with the toast fail the bar. Use this for low-priority timed feedback; escalate harder decisions to dialogs.

When to use

Timed toasts that confirm or notify without requiring a blocking response.

Not when

Dialogs that need attention, or sticky alerts users must dismiss themselves.

Agent hint

Keep auto-dismiss ≥5s, pause on focus/hover, and preserve actionable paths elsewhere.

Pass

Auto-dismiss is at least 5 seconds; timer pauses on focus/hover; an actionable toast's action remains available elsewhere after dismiss.

Fail

Auto-dismiss under 5 seconds; timer ignores focus/hover; or the only path to the action vanishes with the toast.
