Don't auto-dismiss status; announce complete

dont-auto-dismiss-status-announce-complete

Don’t auto-dismiss status; if the message is time-bound, announce completion — “uploading…” may vanish when done and a live region must say “upload complete.” Dual-cite Spectrum toast ≥5s / Suomi 10s; no house seconds.

Description

Do not auto-dismiss status that is still relevant. If a time-bound message such as “uploading…” vanishes when done, a live region must announce completion—for example “upload complete.” Silent disappearance leaves people unsure whether the work finished. Fail when status auto-dismisses with no completion announcement. Apply to progress and status messages that may expire when work finishes.

When to use

Showing progress or status messages that may expire when work finishes.

Not when

Not for static help text that is not a status announcement.

Agent hint

Keep relevant status; if it vanishes, announce completion in a live region.

Pass

Status that is still relevant stays; time-bound status that vanishes is replaced by a live-region completion announcement.

Fail

Status auto-dismisses with no completion announcement.
